Maria Montessori was an Italian educator and physician, best known for developing the Montessori Method of teaching.  She was born in ChiraValle in the Ancona province of Italy.  

Montessori is the name given to the discoveries and educational method devised by Dr. Maria Montessori.  Dr. Montessori is Italy's first woman physician and she used her scientific training to observe how children will teach themselves given an appropriately prepared environment. She devoted the rest of her life to the development of method of education, which would answer the child's needs and permit fullest development of his/her potential. Dr. Montessori began the first "Case dei Bambini" in 1907 in San Lorenzo on the outskirts of Rome.
